Wow! I did not expect to have such a disheartening experience with a local merchant. My son bought me a Giant's hat here as a birthday gift. He's 18. He doesn't know my size. He doesn't keep receipts. His heart is in the right place -- he really enjoyed using his new found freedom with his driver's license, and paying with the money he earned working at Papa Murphy's. And he was smart enough to ask the person waiting on him "what if it doesn't fit my Dad?". "No worries", he was told. Just have him come in and we'll swap him for one that fits. That was about 3 weeks ago. I walked in today with the hat - virtually untouched, since I knew it was the wrong size as soon as I saw the label - in a safeway bag. My son had removed any sort of price tag/sticker, and didn't have the receipt. But hey, this was a local merchant, I'm a local customer, my son said the guy was very reassuring, and I expected to be in and out in a breeze. Not so fast. A guy who later identified himself as Gary seemed bent on putting a damper on my day. No receipt? Sorry, we can't take it back. I expressed my displeasure, and it quickly escalated into what was -- much to my shock -- a scenario that Gary seemed to enjoy. He actually used the words, after I complained that this wasn't the way I expected to be treated, 'this day is turning out more fun than I thought". He was having fun antagonizing me! My advice is to stay far away from this place. Their prices are what you would expect -- higher than what you'll pay on-line, and no better than the mall. The selection is whatever they happen to have on hand (before Gary realized I didn't have a receipt, he said "I'm not sure you'll find what you want in your size", indicating their selection wasn't terrific). So if the selection is average, the price is average, the return policy is draconian, and the service is nasty, why would anyone want to shop here? Merchants like this aren't likely to last long in a world where I can buy stuff from an infinite selection, at a competitive price online, and have it in my hands in a day or two. It's sad -- I really do like to support my local merchants, so I hate to see them go, but I do expect to get some value for my time and money, and unless Gary is normally a COMPLETELY different person than he showed me, I can't see how this shop can last.
